Szentgotthárd

Szentgotthárd is an 800-year old town on the Hungarian–Slovenian–Austrian triple border. You can reach the town from Bük in just one hour and a half hour.
The town is frequently referred to in history due to the Battle of Szentgotthárd in 1664, after which it began to develop uninterruptedly. The great return of the Cistercians was of particular importance, which—in terms of the town’s cultural and artistic history—started a new era for the town and its abbey with grandiose constructions and European-scale works.
The most important sights of the county’s southwestern corner are the church and the neighbouring abbey building near the river Rába. The latest attraction in the beautiful environment is the Szentgotthárd Thermal Park awaiting visitors that wish to relax and unwind. The thermal park offers around 1,500 m2 water surface, special slides, whirlpools, saunas and sporting opportunities.
In the Őrség, the confluence of the Rába and the Lapincs rivers is suitable for rafting and fishing, thus it is an ideal destination for nature enthusiasts, cyclists, water sports lovers and hikers alike.
